This session will focus on narrative in the Bible, because telling God’s story is at the heart of understanding both who He is and who we are.

Israel’s Exodus story shapes their identity and reveals to them the nature of the God who has 'set them free', and also tells them what they are meant to be - His covenant people.  And that story is reflected not only in the narrative of the nation, but also in the Psalms and throughout the Prophets.

Likewise, God’s decision to reveal himself to us through Jesus places the life (and the story) of one man at the heart of our relationship with Him, and it is only through the telling of that story that we come to understand God and who He calls us to be in the kingdom that Jesus came to establish.

So children need to know those stories, not just intellectually, but as a way of forming their spirituality in connection with Kingdom Life. And they need to know the Big Story into which all the other stories fit. That requires us to tell God’s story well, with all the wit and passion and creativity that those stories deserve.
